30th of November - Today is Mika Salo’s birthday and this shot shows the Finn blasting about the streets of Monte Carlo eleven years ago. What was so special that Sunday making it worth remembering Mika’s drive in the Tyrrell 025-Ford at the 1997 Monaco GP?

29th of November - A tragic crash of Graham Hill’s private aeroplane takes the lifes of the twice World Drivers’ Champion, his young driver Tony Brise, designer Andy Smallman and three other members of the Embassy-Hill F1 team back in 1975. The GH1 pictured wasn’t a particularly good car, scoring only three points that year. But boy, was that airscoop a marketing director’s dream or what? Do you know why air scoops of that enormous size vanished for good from F1?

28th of November – The driver’s smile says it all. Winner of the second round of the 1951 Formula 1 World Championship, the guy at the wheel’s proudly showing off the car he took to the chequers first then and there. Yet, it’s not a F1 car. Do you know the whole deal?

27th of November – At the 13th anniversary of Giancarlo Baghetti’s passing it is impossible not to reminisce about the 1961 French Grand Prix. Entered in a privately owned Ferrari, the Italian fought his way through the field from 12th on the grid and with eight laps to go he began to challenge race leader Dan Gurney. After seven lead changes Baghetti dived out of Gurney’s slipstream with two hundred yards to go and won by 1/100 of a second. Not only was it an exciting finish, it was also an accomplishment that made F1 history, a record that stands till the present day. Do you know what I’m talking about?

26th of November – OK, OK, so it might been a bit tough to guess all those exotic late 60s liveries. Let’s try something easier: Who’s driving this fabulous car will be as easy to guess as make an model of the machine itself. Right?

23rd of November – Today is Olivier Beretta’s birthday and the picture above shows the F3000 car he drove back in 1993 before debuting for Larrousse in F1. Yet, despite the shot being from that season, it’s not Beretta at the wheel. Any takers who that could be?

22th of November - If that’s a colour scheme you’ve never seen on a Brabham, what better opportunity than today to show this BT26A off? After all it’s Jackie Pretorius 74th birthday. All the best.

21st of November – When Ettore Bugatti died 61 years ago, it seemed a good-bye from the Grands Prix as well for the marque. The company, passed on to his son Roland, didn’t build a proper racecar until 1955. Gioacchino Colombo, hired away from Maserati, designed the mid-engined Bugatti 251 for 2.5-liter Formula 1 rules. It had an odd transversal straight 8 DOHC engine arrangement that saw Maurice Trintignant fighting more with his own car at the French GP that year, than battling for positions with his rivals. After the disaster the car went back to Molsheim and straight to the museum, the final page of Bugatti racing history had been written.
