Arthur Brookes Hyde
Arthur Brookes Hyde (GB)
4 Sep 1915 – 26 Mar 2005
Born in Highbury, London 1915. Raced as an independent in the years 1937 to 1939. He owned a Riley 9 and the 8CM-3000 Maserati. He had modest success but, according to his son, a great deal of fun. With the Riley he won a Mountain Handicap at Brooklands. Entered the Donington GP in 1937, soon after purchasing the Maserati, but felt that the discrepancy between his speeds and those of the Mercedes-Benz and Auto Unions was likely to be dangerous so he did not start. As George Monkhouse said: “Very sporting but quite unneccessary.” In 1938 he went to the German GP where he crashed badly after 14 laps. He was lucky to survive but continued to race in 1939. He was third in the 1939 British Empire Trophy at Donington, won by Tony Rolt, He did not resume racing after the war and sold the cars. It is believed that the Maserati was bought by Cholmondley Tapper. A. B. Hyde moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where he died in 2005.

Not perfect, but lighter
Well, who said it would be easy to publish a 60-page weekly motorsport e-paper? It took a while, we’re back to lightweight 5.0 MB for swift download, but I’m not entirely happy with some other issues. You live and learn, they say…
However, we got reports from all over the World and a nice tribute on the late Frank Gardner. Enjoy!

Fine tuning
Dear readers of P1Mag,
last week we had a slight delay because of a new production process that made things significantly easier and more effective backstage. The downside was that all our previous efforts to make P1Mag as “lightweight” as possible for download were blown out of the window, suddenly we had a near to 10MB size edition no. 14.
As true racers we’re always eager to improve all the time in order to become more and more competitive. So this week we (again) had the choice of delivering as scheduled, or introducing further improvements to make the leaner production also a lighter and swifter download experience for the user.
My choice was yet again to make that necessary step backwards to allow us to make two steps forward after that. So it is likely that P1Mag edition no. 15 will appear on Wednesday. But significantly lighter than the previous one.
I hope you approve the choice I made, especially as we are confident the coverage of a wide variety of racing series and the obituary on Frank Gardner will compensate the delay.
We’ll keep you posted
Greetings
Mario
