Thank you very much !

Over the holidays the visit counter went past the quarter million mark almost unnoticed. Time to thank you all for frequently dropping by and making this number possible. Even if I haven’t had the time lately to update in the same pace than in the past. But things are bound for some changes in 2010. Watch this space :)

Latest rumour from Italy

From Italy we hear Chris Dyer – formerly Michael Schumacher’s and Kimi Räikkönen’s race enginer- is bound to leave Ferrari… for Mercedes Grand Prix.

IT’S A FACT: HE’S BACK !

Last 2009 issue of P1Mag will be out on the 24th of December !

BLIMEY !

So he’s really daring it: Michael Schumacher to be anounced tommorrow (Wednesday) as Mercedes GP’s driver for 2010 alongside Nico Rosberg. Who would have thought that…?

When official confirmation becomes speculation

For me it is always deeply irritating when the result of investigative journalism is demoted to remarks of the kind of “that’s just speculation” by the ones concerned. I have voiced that before. There are colleagues out there who don’t bother to research and just limit themselves to write about what teams or drivers have declared by the way of official statements. Playing safe simply isn’t exciting, you might as well work in a bank then. Still, even official statements aren’t worth much these days, right Mr. Montezemolo?

Translating the latest issue

P1Mag Issue 30 – for all non-German speakers – featured a look back on the 2009 season in US-Racing and, of course, a bit of F1 gossip

- Kamui Kobayashi joining Sauber became a confirmed reality the next day;
- Renault F1 staying thanks to new investor Gérard Lopez leaves a question mark over the second seat as Lopez has got a couple of drivers under contract at Gravity sports management but might not be able to place them as – to this moment – none of them seems elegible for a super license- Good chance for Romain Grosjean to stay on;
- The saga over whether Micheal Schumacher will come back or not might be decided by…. insurance companies. In driver’s contracts insurance issues are one of the most complex matter to deal with. It is believed Mercedes GP is struggling to find a company willin to insure the risk of a multi-millionaire individual with the health issue of recently broken skull basis wanting to risk his life…

And we tested Need For Speed SHIFT, in my humble opinion the best racing game around so far in terms of cockpit view and driving realism from this angle. Very close to true simulations. Gran Turismo 4 and Forza 2 are no longer the standard, Forza 3 and Dirt2 to be tested soon.

Schumacher rumours speeding up

Has Luca di Montezemolo given in ? Usually reliable German news magazine “Focus” reports that Mercedes has signed Michael Schumacher for measly 3.5 million Euro for 2010.

Preview on P1Mag issue no. 29

P1Mag will feature – among others – our research to the growing rumours around a not so unlikely Schumacher comeback and what role Sauber plays in it. We look into Kimi Räikkönens upcoming WRC adventure and will review the 2009 season of major single seater categories. Of course we also cater for news from the Formula 1 driver’s market, as well as bringing race reports from the title deciders in Australian V8 Supercars and Asian Porsche Carrera Cup.

Eurosport annoys Räikkönen fans

In the wake of Kimi Räikkönen’s sensational switch from F1 to WRC, fans were looking forward to watch the popular Finnish World Champion on his debut season in WRC via Eurosport TV, which so far ran a round-up after every WRC competition day late in the evenings. That’s not going to happen in 2010 as the French decided to drop WRC coverage in favour of IRC. Which, by the way, is organised by Eurosport Events.

??????????????

5th of December -Today is Jordi Gené’s birthday and although the Spaniard didn’t make it into an F1 grid, he was one of the drivers Jean-Pierre Mosnier had in mind for his Formula 1 team. The plan was to establish a Spanish Grand Prix team with Adrian Campos as team manager and to enter two Nick Wirth designed chassis, formerly known as Andrea Moda S921. Do you remember the name Mosnier had in mind for the team before he passed away?
