Harvick wins at home

Kevin Harvick, who grew up in Bakersfield—about 150 miles from Auto Club Speedway—needed a last-lap pass of Jimmie Johnson to win for the first time at the 2-mile track, in his 18th attempt. Harvick won Sunday’s Auto Club 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, powering his No. 29 Chevrolet to the outside of Johnson’s No. 48 Chevy through Turns 3 and 4 and beating Johnson to the finish line by .144 seconds.
Franchitti wins season opener in St. Pete

Dario Franchitti made a strong start in his bid for a third consecutive IndyCar Series championship by running away from pole-sitter Will Power and the remnants of the 24-car field to win for the first time at St. Petersburg. He collected two bonus points to the 50 for the victory by leading the most laps (94).
Checa extends lead with win

Carlos Checa controlled race two of the European Superbike Grand Prix in Donington Park from the early laps and won by 3.397 seconds from race one victor Marco Melandri. Leon Camier took the final podium position, Leon Haslam went fourth for the second time today, despite running off track at one point. Joan Lascorz was a great fifth on the new ZX-10R machine.
Checa now leads Melandri in the overall standings, 91
Ogier finally comes good

Sébastien Ogier headed team-mate Sébastien Loeb into the final stage of the Rally Portugal to seal his first victory of the 2011 World Rally Championship season at the finish in Faro, and giving the Citroen team’s first one-two finish of the year. Behind the Citroen DS3 WRC works cars the Ford works drivers Jari-Matti Latvala finished third 3 minutes and 22 seconds adrift from the winner and beating team-mate Mikko Hirvonen for the final podium position.

Melandri take first World Superbike win

Marco Melandri took his first win in the World Superbike Championship at an almost freezing Donington Park Circuit, overtaking race leader Jakub Smrz with two laps to go. Equally Carlos Checa took P3 from Leon Haslam in the final laps to clinch the final podium position and to preserve his lead in the points standings

Gastone Brilli Peri won the 1925 Italian Grand Prix and the 1929 Tripoli Grand Prix. a year later he was killed in practice at the site of his last great triumph in Tripoli .

Remembering Peter Revson
22/03/1974, Peter Revson dies.
Peter Jeffrey Revson and his younger brother Doug grew up surrounded by money, as their father had been a co-owner in the Revlon cosmetics company and had sold off his shares in 1958. Peter showed up in Europe in 1963 to take part in Formula Junior races and by the end of the year had had his first taste of F1 in the Gold Cup at Oulton Park. He founded Revson Racing, run by Reg Parnell, and entered a Lotus-BRM in 11 events in 1964, including six World Championship races. Lacking impressive results he turned his main attention the CanAm series for the next five years. Although his university buddy Timmy Mayer was killed in a round of the 1964 Tasman series and Doug also lost his life in an F3 race in Denmark in 1967, Peter’s passion for racing remained unchanged and he continued to pursue his ambitions. In 1969 he finished 5th at the Indy 500 and won an IndyCar race at Indianapolis Raceway Park in a Brabham-Repco. He then had a comeback in F1 with the Yardley McLaren team in 1972 and had his finest moments in winning the British and Canadian Grands Prix the following year. He switched to the Shadow F1 team in 1974 but was killed during testing sessions at Kyalami circuit in the week prior to the South African Grand Prix. His Shadow suffered a front suspension failure and the car slid off the track and underneath the guard rails killing Peter Revson instantly.

Weekend sweep for Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch held off polesitter Carl Edwards and defending race winner Jimmie Johnson to win his fifth straight race in NASCAR’s top three national series at the Bristol Motor Speedway, scoring his 20th in the Sprint Cup Series, his first of the season and his second straight at Thunder Valley. Busch capped his second straight weekend sweep at Bristol, having won Saturday’s Nationwide Series event (pictured above).
Stoner wins on debut for Honda

Casey Stoner wins the MotoGP season opening Grand Prix of Qatar at the Losail International Circuit ahead of World Champion Jorge Lorenzo and Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa. Andrea Dovizioso, Marco Simoncelli and Ben Spies complete the top6, Valentino Rossi finishes in seventh on his first GP for Ducati.
Stefan Bradl wins Moto2 Grand Prix

Stefan Bradl wins the season opening round of the Moto2 World Championship with a dominant start-to-finish lead. Second at the Grand Prix of Qatar was Andrea Iannone ahead of Tom Lüthi, Alex de Angelis and Yuki Takahashi.
Terol wins season opener

Nico Terol scored a clear start-to-finish win in the 125 class at the Grand Prix of Qatar from Sandro Cortese, Sergio Gadea, Efren Vazquez and Jonas Folger.
Grosjean is first champion of the year

Romain Grosjean sealed the 2010/2011 GP2 Asia title with a race win in the feature race and a fourth place in the sprint race at the series’ final Weekend in Imola after a troubled season. Dani Clos won the GP2 Asia finale at Imola on Sunday after polesitter Fairuz Fauzy made a complete botch of his start.
Peugeot wins Sebring 12 Hours race – again

Team ORECA Matmut’s Peugeot 908 driven by Lapierre/Duval/Panis has won the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring ahead of Highcroft Racing’s HPD ARX-01e with Brabham/Franchitti/Pagenaud at the wheel. The pole-winning No. 8 Peugeot 908 from Peugeot Sport, driven by Montagny/Sarrazin/Lamy, took third.
The Lola Honda of Tucker/Hunter-Reay/Diaz took the class win in LM P2, in the GT class Rahal-Lettermann-Lanigan scored a 1-2 with Priaulx/Mueller/Hand crossing the line first ahead of the BMW M3 GT2 sister car of Farfus/Auberlen/(Werner.
Remembering Theo Fitzau
Theo Fitzau was born and grew up in East-Germany and became an entrepreneur in the German Democratic Republic. He raced for the official Veritas team in the domestic scene, including the new for 1951 Formula 2 championship. Once he got the permission to travel to the west to race with an AFM-BMW F2 in the 1953 German GP at the Nürburgring, the only time he appears in F1 stats, he gave up his life in the east to deflect to West-Germany.
Born: 10th of February 1923 in Köthen, German Democratic Republic.
Died: 18th of March 1982 in Gross Gerau, Federal Republic of Germany, aged 59.
