Lewis, Casey, Will, Romain, Luca, Carl, Scott, Memo, Lucas, Klaus and all the great racers
What an exciting race weekend! Of course everyone has seen the magnificent three way battle for the win at the German Formula 1 Grand Prix. Right there at the Nürburgring GP2 and GP3 drivers also gave their best, fighting for points under mostly difficult climatic conditions.
No such problems for Casey Stoner, who beat pole-sitter Jorge Lorenzo to win the MotoGP US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, nor for Will Power to beat the opposition in Edmonton’s City Center Airport Circuit, both events happening under bright sunny skies. Even Brands Hatch, where GT, F2 and F3 drivers were battling for points, had similarly great racing and better weather to offer than the Eifel region. Same for NASCAR, ALMS and Grand-Am, offering entertaining motor sport, too.
We got nearly 100 pages of coverage from all those series and some more from around the globe waiting for you in P1Mag’s latest edition.

Pole-sitter Taku Sato became the victim of a misjudged attack by Ryan Hunter-Reay, dropping the Japanese driver a lap behind. Dario Franchitti preserved his title defence options finishing third and with Ryan Briscoe having to reliquish P4 for a splah & dash, Tony Kanaan finished fourth from Justin Wilson and Sébastien Bourdais.

Remembering Lance Haugwitz-Reventlow
24t/07/1972, Lance Haugwitz-Reventlow dies.
The son of Danish nobleman Count Court Haugwitz-Reventlow and American heiress Barbara Hutton and grandson to Frank Winfield Woolworth, founder of the Woolworth store chain, Lance Reventlow wasn’t short of cash at all. After a stint Europe, renting a factory Cooper Formula 2 to participate in various races in Britain, he became inspired to build his own machine, the Scarab sportscar. In the late 1950s Reventlow Automobile Inc embarked an ambitious, but poorly timed front-engined Formula 1 project. Rear-engined cars revolutionized F1 racing at the time and the Scarab was out-dated from the outset, failing to qualify. For the 1960 British GP Reventlow rented a factory Cooper and made a further attempt with the Scarab in early 1961. After a crash destroyed the Scarab, Reventlow lost interest. Being a step-son of Cary Grant, it wasnät surprising to see him dating a variety of actresses in the years that followed. He was killed in an airplane crash in the Rocky Mountains in 1972.
Born: 24th of February 1936 in London, UK;
Died: 24th of July 1972 in the Rocky Mountains, USA, aged 36.

Having just come back from a colarbone surgery – after having suffered a further injury at the end of last season – the diminuitive Spaniard came out on top of a hard fought battle for the MotoGP race win in Sunday’s German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring.
Talking about close racing and overtaking. Would you believe in Formula One there have already been a whopping 632 overtaking maneuvres this season? Amazing, how a new kind of tires and tricks like DRS have enhanced the action on track. More on that in an opening story, plus, of course, all of the motor sport action from all around the world.
