#F1 – Vettel wins first ever Indian Grand Prix

In his usual dominant way Sebastian Vettel never let anyone even come close to challenge him for the race win in the first ever Indian Formula One Grand Prix in history, scoring a hattrick of pole position, fastest lap and victory. Jenson Button finished second from Fernando Alonso, while Mark Webber dropped from second on the grid to a disappointing fourth. Michael Schumacher for once beat his young team-mate Nico Rosberg for fifth, while Lewis Hamilton had to settle for seventh after yet another collision with Felipe Massa, who crashed out on his own later. Jaime Alguersuari, Adrian Sutil and Sergio Perez completed the top ten.

Remembering Maurice Trintignant

30th of October 1917, Maurice Trintignant is born in Sainte-Cécile-Les-Vignes, France.

Younger brother to pre-war Bugatti racer Louis Trintignant, Maurice was a very versatile driver with Gordini and then Ferrari, winning the 1954 Le Mans 24 Hours race with partner Froilan Gonzalez. It was also the year of his debut in Formula 1 and taking the chequers in Monaco in 1st place in 1955, he became the first Frenchman to win a World Championship Grand Prix. But he’d have a rather unsettled career in F1, changing teams quite often. Bugatti, Vanwall, Ferrari again for 1957, BRM, Rob Walker’s team, for which he won the Monaco GP a second time, Aston Martin, Scuderia Centro Sud and again a short – and final – stint with Rob Walker after Stirling Moss’s accident in 1962. After retiring from racing, Maurice Trintignant took over the family vineyard near his home town of Vergèze, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, where he produced a wine called “Le Petoulet” and was elected the local mayor for a period.

Born: 30th of October 1917 in Sainte-Cécile-Les-Vignes, France.
Died: 13th of February 2005 in Nîmes, France, aged 87.

#P1Mag issue no. 39 – A Tribute to Marco Simoncelli

When our sport suffers not one, but two tragic losses, this widely spread mass of people comes closer together, reacts like an affected family would do, and mourns. In these past days we mourned the passing of two true heroes of our sport, losing their lives doing what they loved most and what we all enjoyed watching them doing to the best of their abilities.

From a stand-point of what our job is, it’s impossible to remain strictly cool and unaffected by what happened. Again we have tried our best to cope with circumstances and bring you a well balanced view of the events. The article concerning the ongoing task to constantly improve safety in motor sport and its current situation will have to be post-poned as we obviously would like to add our findings from this further tragedy.

SIMPLY DISGUSTING !

This is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen!!! Final words of the anchorman at the end of the DTM season finale live coverage: “Watch our (a German sports summary TV program) later on, including a nice motorbike race…”

It gets worse: The World of Motorsport mourns the passing of two great champions. But all the DTM board of directors is worried about, is to stage a party on the podium and extend a banner beneath the rostrum at Hockenheim, trying to sell tickets for 2012…

Disgusting! Shame on you!!! You have no whatsoever ethics! If you can’t pay respect like everyone else around the globe, you should leave motor sport alone!!! GO AWAY!!! Leave TRUE motor sport to TRUE motor sport people who care!

#MotoGP – Marco Simoncelli 1987 – 2011

Just a week after Dan Wheldon’s fatal accident the motor sport community mourns yet another fatality: Marco Simoncelli has died in a horrific crash in the second lap of the Malaysian MotoGP race in Sepang, as the Italian rider – running in fourth – fell by himself and following riders Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi were unable to avoid him.

Edwards also fell but escaped serious injury, while Rossi, Supersic’s long time friend, was able to return to the pits. The race was red-flagged and finally cancelled for good, following the confirmation of Marco’s passing.

P1Mag will pay our respect to the former 250cc World Champion in issue no. 40.

#P1Mag issue 38 – A Tribute To Dan Wheldon

This has clearly been the most difficult issue to produce in the slightly more than one and a half years since P1Mag has been launched.

On Sunday we lost Dan Wheldon and you could see by the tone of the condolences spiraling in the usual channels how popular Dan was and how deeply affected people all over the globe were by the shocking news.

It has been the most difficult task since I’m heading P1Mag, to complete this issue. Personal recollections of happier moments aside, all a journalist can do, is to make the lines he writes and the pages he lays out with pictures that tell the best part of the story turn into the best possible tribute for a man that has left such a lasting impression in the hearts of millions around the globe.

I hope, with all the limitations that such a small enterprise as ours has to deal with, we have done our best to honor Dan’s life and career adequately.

#P1Mag – The Double World Champion Edition Is Out Now !

Sebastian Vettel is the youngest double world champion in history. And there were other exciting championship decisions throughout the weekend. For example in the World Series by Renault, the Blancpain Endurance Series, the Italian Superstars Series, the International GTSprint Series, and the British GT Championship.

But the definitely closest championship decider of the season must have been the one in the British Superbike Championship with Tommy Hill beating John Hopkins by a mere nine thousands of a second to a championship winning second place in Brands Hatch, even exceeding the sensational championship decider in the Supersport class, were Alastair Seeley took the title by one point over Ben Wilson.

Congratulations to all 2011 champions and their teams!

So you see, not always the real excitement lies, where everyone is looking. Good thing we gathered all of last weekend’s stories and compiled them in yet another 100 pages plus edition. Championship deciding race or not, we got it anyway. And hey, it’s still FOR FREE!

#Formula Renault 3.5 – Title goes to Wickens in dramatic finale

The final Formula Renault 3.5 Series race of the season could hardly have been more eventful. The eagerly awaited duel between Carlin team-mates and championship rivals Robert Wickens and Jean-Eric Vergne was cut short when they clashed at the start, with Wickens forced to retire. The Frenchman battled on, however, and was virtual champion before having to pull out himself just ten minutes from the end, allowing the Canadian to become the seventh man to win the FR 3.5 Series. Claiming the race victory – his first in the discipline – was home favourite Albert Costa.

#F1 – Button wins, Vettel World Champion

With a tactical move Jenson Button grabbed the lead in the Japanese Grand Prix and never looked back to win the title deciding race at Suzuka. But Sebastian Vettel was content to secure his second World title in a row with a third place finish behind Fernando Alonso. Mark Webber finished fourth from Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Felipe Massa, Sergio Perez, Vitaly Petrov and Nico Rosberg, the latter notably starting from last on the grid.

#F1 – Vettel takes season’s twelth pole

Sebastian Vettel took his 12th pole position of the season at Suzuka with a lap time 1:30.466s, beating Jenson Button by just 0.009 seconds. Lewis Hamilton, quickest up until then, was slightly too late on his second run and was unable to improve on his 1:30.617 lap time, ending up in third ahead of the Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber could only manage sixth in the other Red Bull, despite setting the fastest sector one time.

Michael Schumacher will line up seventh on the Grid for tommorow’s Japanese Grand Prix, despite not stetting a time in Q3 to save tyres. Renault took the same strategy, with Bruno Senna completing row 4 and Vitaly Petrov staying ahead of local hero Kamui Kobayashi.
