In the wake of Kimi Räikkönen’s sensational switch from F1 to WRC, fans were looking forward to watch the popular Finnish World Champion on his debut season in WRC via Eurosport TV, which so far ran a round-up after every WRC competition day late in the evenings. That’s not going to happen in 2010 as the French decided to drop WRC coverage in favour of IRC. Which, by the way, is organised by Eurosport Events.

While that is clearly a tactical manoeuver to out run WRC in favour of their own series, it is actually a pretty stupid decision to take, knowing that Kimi Räikkönen will take part in the whole WRC season and Valentino Rossi is going for a Rally Mexico start – and perhaps a second one later in the season – in a Stobbart-Ford Focus.

Both drivers will undoubtedly bring a huge amount of fans from and F1 and MotoGP to watch WRC on the TV. And Eurosport what is Eurosport doing? Turning their backs on a significant increase on viewers in order to sell their own little thing. It really makes me wonder…
