Mikko Hirvonen, co-driven by fellow Finn Jarmo Lehtinen, has narrowed Sebastien Loeb’s lead in the World Rally Championship to 15 points after winning Rally Australia for a third time, ending Citroen’s run of success. Jari-Matti Latvala made it a one-two for Ford, Petter Solberg third in his privateer Citroen DS3 WRC.
Points leader Sébastien Loeb battled back from his roll on Friday to claim the final point in 10th after his Citroen team ordered Sebastien Ogier to drop out of the points on the penultimate stage. Ogier, who also suffered crash on Friday and himself still has a chance to grab the title, was downhearted when he was forced to surrender a points’ finish.
