Jonathan Rea won his second race of the year from Noriyuki Haga at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari and was only hindered by mechanical troubles to repeat the success in the second race. Carlos Checa took a third place and the race win in the second dramatic race of the Imola weekend with Haga adding the points for another P2 to his tally. But Checa was unable to clinch the championship outright as his only remaining rival Marco Melandri finished eighth and then sixth and has – despite very remotely – still a mathematical chance to turn his 97-points deficit around in the final two rounds.
