Just a week after Dan Wheldon’s fatal accident the motor sport community mourns yet another fatality: Marco Simoncelli has died in a horrific crash in the second lap of the Malaysian MotoGP race in Sepang, as the Italian rider – running in fourth – fell by himself and following riders Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi were unable to avoid him.
Edwards also fell but escaped serious injury, while Rossi, Supersic’s long time friend, was able to return to the pits. The race was red-flagged and finally cancelled for good, following the confirmation of Marco’s passing.
