Dario Franchitti took his third Indy 500 win in a nail-biting finish that saw Takuma Sato try a daring pass and crashing into the Turn 1 wall. Scott Dixon, finished from Tony Kanaan,

It had been an exciting Indy 500 with numerous race leaders, even recording a new record with well over 30 lead changes towards the end.

Marco Andretti had been among the top contenders until he spun with 12 laps to go, causing the final caution of the race. At the restart with 6 laps to go half a dozen of drivers were in a position to fight for the race win. With Sato coming through to try to take the win – and trying too hard and at the wrong place.
