A very quick semi-professional Italian driver, Balestrero won the 1st Libyan Grand Prix driving a 2.0L O.M. as early as 1925 and then raced Bugattis and later a Alfa Romeo 308. After the war he would resume racing on national level and became 1947 Italian Champion in the Fiat-Stanguellini 2800 8C. With a successful career spanning over 25 years and over 200 race starts, it would have been interesting to see how he’d fare in a World Championship. Sadly Renato Balestrero died in consequence of a tragic road accident near Milan.
Born: 27th of July 1898 in Lucca, Italy.
