Germany’s Nico Rosberg took Mercedes’ second consecutive pole position – following Lewis Hamilton’s pole in China – in qualifying for Sunday’s Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix. Compatriot and triple world champion Sebastian Vettel joined him on the front row for Red Bull.

Ferrari team-mates Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa will share the second row on the grid after penalties for Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Mark Webber.

Force India drivers Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil will line up in row 3 just ahead of Kimi Räikkönen and Mark Webber. Jenson Button will line up in row 5 with Hamilton in P10 after a gearbox change on his Merc prior to qualifying.
